Installing the Kount App in Shopify

Prevent fraudulent charges on your Shopify store by adding the Kount app, which utilizes Kount 360. The app gives you an out-of-the-box solution for fraud protection. Once you have installed the app, default policies are in place to approve or decline orders based on preset fraud prevention parameters.

Install the Kount App

Installing the Kount app in the Shopify store increases your ability to approve and decline transactions based on specific criteria. Kount uses a set of default rules to help you prevent fraudulent transactions.

  1. Sign in to your Shopify app store.

  2. Search for or select the Kount app.

  3. From the Kount app page, select Install.

  4. Select New Register.

  5. Read the terms and conditions, then select Acknowledge.

  6. Select Approve.

The Shopify payment checkout page displays. An invitation to Kount 360 is sent to the email address used by the owner/admin of your Shopify store.

  7. Enter your payment info, then select Approve.

  8. Select Live.

    The configuration page displays.

  9. Enable auto approve and decline by selecting Auto-Capture, Auto-Void, and Auto-Refund.

This sets up default rule sets created by Kount to manage transactions. For more information about the available configuration options, go to Configure the Kount App.

  10. Select Save.

A prompt displays confirming the successful installation and configuration of the Kount app.

After you successfully purchase the Kount app, you should receive an invitation to join Kount 360. Joining Kount 360 is optional, but allows you to further manage transactions with custom rule sets in Policy Management, Analytics, and other features. If you want to join Kount 360, go to Utilizing Kount 360 for your Shopify Store.

Install the Kount app as an existing user

If you already have a Kount account, you can download the Kount app in Shopify and then add your Kount 360 API key to log in.

Note

If you are setting up a new store for Kount Command, do not proceed with these steps. Contact support@kount.com for assistance. Continuing with these steps results in your store being set up on Kount 360 instead of Kount Command.

  1. Sign in to your Shopify app store.

  2. Search for or select the Kount app.

  3. From the Kount app page, select Install.

  4. Under Existing Kount User, enter your Kount 360 API key.

  5. Select Login.

Your API key links Kount 360 with your Shopify store.

  6. Select Live.

    The configuration page displays.

  7. Enable auto approve and decline by selecting Auto-Capture, Auto-Void, and Auto-Refund.

This sets up default rule sets created by Kount to manage transactions. For more information about the available configuration options, go to Configure the Kount App.

  8. Select Save.

A prompt displays confirming the successful installation and configuration of the Kount app.

Configure the Kount App

The base configuration for the Kount app must include Auto-Capture, Auto-Void, and Auto-Refund in order for Kount to process transactions for you. Additional configuration options are available.

To review and select configuration options:

  1. Sign in your the Shopify store.

  2. In your apps, select the Kount app.

  3. If your app is set to Disabled, select Live.

  4. Review and select the appropriate configuration options for your business needs:

    Approve Actions

    • Auto-Capture — Select this checkbox to enable the auto-capture functionality of this app. If this is enabled and Kount approves a transaction, it calls the Shopify API to capture payment. This feature only works when gateway settings are set to Manual. To set the gateway settings to manual, go to the Shopify payment capture settings, select Manage, and then Manual.

Payments are authorized only until Kount processes the transaction. If Kount approves the transaction or marks it for review, the payment is then captured. If Kount declines the transaction, the payment is not captured.

      Note

If you enable Auto-Capture, do not also enable auto-capture in your payment gateway to avoid double-capturing payments.

    Decline Actions

    • Auto-Void — Select this checkbox to enable the auto-void functionality of this app. If enabled and Kount declines a transaction, it calls the Shopify API to void the authorization.

    • Auto-Refund — Select this checkbox to refund purchase and add items back into inventory when Kount responds with D (Decline), either initially or through a manual review.

    • Auto-Cancel — Transactions declined in Kount contact the Shopify API to cancel the order. If disabled, you must manually cancel it in Shopify.

    Analysis Submission

    • Disable All — Select this checkbox to temporarily disable sending transactions to Kount for a Risk Assessment.

    • Disable Phone Orders — Orders placed on behalf of a shopper will not be sent to Kount for a Risk Assessment.

    • Submit Recurring Transactions — If the customer is using an app for recurring transactions and the checkbox is selected, it submits all the transactions, including the recurring one. If the checkbox is not selected, only the first transaction is submitted, not the recurring transactions. The default setting for this is Enabled. Currently, only Ordergroove and Recharge are supported.

    Risk Indication

    • Single Basic Indicator (enabled by default) — This sends a single fraud indicator to an order in Shopify. This helps optimize API usage in Shopify. If it is disabled, your shop is more likely to exceed the API limits set by Shopify. Refer to Shopify API Rate Limits for API rate specifics.

  5. Select Save.

Customizing Kount 360 for your Shopify store

After installing the Kount app in Shopify, you have the option to customize your experience with Payments Fraud in Kount 360. This is not required to use the Kount app in Shopify. We have default policies that approve or decline orders based on specific parameters.

If you want to change the parameters and build policies to better fit your use case, you can sign in to Kount 360 and create a custom set of rules. Kount 360 is linked to your Shopify store using a webhook so you can see all of your store transactions.

Note

Do not delete the webhook that links Kount 360 to your Shopify store.
